Job Overview

NLCS (Singapore) is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and enthusiastic Junior School Music Teacher to join our established and forward-looking music department.

Music is a valued and visible part of Junior School life at NLCS (Singapore). Pupils follow a practical, skills-based curriculum that combines class instrumental learning, curriculum musicianship, ensemble participation and frequent performance opportunities.

The appointed teacher will teach both whole-class instrumental lessons, working with orchestral or band-based groups in brass, woodwind or strings, and general classroom music across the Junior School. They will be an effective and reflective practitioner, able to engage pupils of differing abilities, nurture musical independence and create a positive learning environment in which pupils feel confident to perform and progress.

The role would suit a teacher who is committed to high standards in music education and motivated to contribute to the continued development of an already strong music programme.

The successful candidate will:

• be a specialist instrumentalist in brass, woodwind or strings, with experience teaching classroom music

• have experience leading class instrumental programmes and musical ensembles

• be confident rehearsing and directing orchestras, bands or choirs

• demonstrate secure musicianship and strong classroom practice

• contribute actively to concerts, performances and the wider musical life of the school

The ability to play the piano and accompany pupils and ensembles would be advantageous but is not essential.

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated music teacher to contribute meaningfully to a dynamic and diverse international school community.
